A TYPICAL WORKSHOP

The workshop lasts four hours with a break of 20 minutes. This allows to develop one of the three dance styles (Shaabi, Baladi or Sharqi) (see links) and to go deeper in the interpretation of the music

Beginners discover progressively a new universe meanwhile the regular students look for a deeper sensation and quality of movement.

After one hour of stretching and warm up floor exercises, the body is ready to walk and move. Then the students, divided in small groups, start a series of exercises or a choreographic research.

HIGHLIGHT OF THE WORKSHOP : MUSICIANS

Two musicians play during over an hour; different musicians according to the dance style.
Most musicians have already played in Anne Benveniste’s shows -- Adel Shams El Din, (Req et darbuka), but also Abdel Hakim Nasr (darbuka), Sameh Sidhom or Nidal Gad (accordeon), Hend Zouari or Khadija El Afrit (chant and Qanoun), Al Bachir Zaid (mizmar and nay).

They play wonderful pieces of the oriental repertoire and can repeat such or such musical sequence in order to understand it better. The percussionist helps understand the Egyptian rhythm, while the other instrument plays the melody and improvises (takassim).

Students improvise; once they understand the structure of the piece, it is their turn to guide the musicians. Complicity is essential between musician and dancer.

WHAT STUDENTS THINK ABOUT WORKSHOP IN PARIS

WHAT STUDENTS SAY ABOUT WORKSHOP IN EGYPT

WHAT STUDENTS SAY ABOUT RESIDENTIAL WORKSHOP
